Geologists use the specialised hammer to split and break hashtagrocks during field assessment for sampling purpose.
Here’s a simple field practice using the geological hammer to assess the quality and suitability of in-situ rock for hashtagcoring.
Simple field testing.
To classify in-situ hashtagrockstrength, field geologists use hashtaggeologicalhammer. This rock is classified as hashtagR4 (strong rock), based on hashtagISRM 1981 and hashtagHoek-Brown 2007.
R4 rock specimen requires several blows of the geological hammer to hashtagfracture. Estimated Uniaxial Compressive Strength (hashtagUCS) is between 7500 – 15,000 psi (52 – 103 MPa).
Some examples of rock is limestone, sandstone, marble, Phyllite, shale and dolomite.
